How do Lumiz lanterns work?
Each Lumiz lantern has an integrated solar panel that charges a rechargeable battery during the day. As daylight fades, the built-in light sensor automatically switches the LED on. When morning comes, the light switches itself off and begins charging again.
Do they need wiring or electricity?
No. Lumiz lanterns are completely wireless and powered by sunlight, so there's no need for cables, power points or extension leads.
Can Lumiz lanterns stay outdoors?
Yes. Lumiz lanterns are designed for year-round outdoor use. They're made from durable, weather-resistant Tyvek®, a lightweight material that resists rain, strong sun and everyday outdoor conditions while helping the lantern retain its colour and shape.
Where should I hang my Lumiz lantern?
For the best performance, hang your Lumiz lantern where the solar panel receives plenty of daylight during the day. A sunny position will provide the longest illumination after dark, although they can also perform well in brighter, partially sheltered locations depending on the available light.
If the solar panel doesn't receive enough daylight, the lantern will still charge, but it may not stay illuminated for as long in the evening.
How long do they stay illuminated?
The running time depends on how much sunlight the solar panel receives during the day. As a guide, aim for around 4–6 hours of direct sunlight for the longest illumination after dark. Cloudy weather, winter conditions or heavily shaded locations may reduce the charging time and, in turn, how long the lantern stays illuminated each evening.
Can I use a Lumiz lantern indoors?
Yes. While the solar panel won't recharge effectively indoors, you can use a standard AAA battery instead of the rechargeable solar battery if you wish to display your Lumiz lantern inside.
Can the rechargeable battery be replaced?
Yes. Lumiz lanterns use a replaceable AAA rechargeable NiMH battery (1.2V). When it's time for a replacement, always use the same type of rechargeable battery to ensure the lantern continues to perform as intended.
How do I care for my Lumiz lantern?
Very little maintenance is required. Simply wipe the lantern and the solar panel with a soft, damp cloth from time to time. Keeping the solar panel free from dust and debris helps it charge efficiently and provides the best evening illumination.
Will the colours fade?
No. Lumiz lanterns are made from durable, weather-resistant Tyvek®, a lightweight material chosen for its strength and colour stability. They're designed for year-round outdoor use and retain their vibrant appearance through the seasons.
Why isn't my lantern turning on?
Most issues are caused by insufficient daylight reaching the solar panel, a rechargeable battery that needs replacing after extended use, or the protective battery tab not being completely removed during initial setup. If you're still having trouble, we're always happy to help.
